Baseball Game Preview: Lathrop Spartans vs. Ceres Bulldogs

The Lathrop Spartans will take on the Ceres Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Lathrop comes in on three and Ceres on five.

Last Thursday, Lathrop had just enough and edged out Grace Davis 6-5.

Lathrop got a great performance from Rueben Lopez as he struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Those hits were Lopez's first of the season.

On the hitting side, Vaugh Sanchez was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. He has become a key player for Lathrop: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Nazir Jones, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ceres). They never let Johansen get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory on Thursday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Bulldogs with their most commanding win of the season.

The team relied heavily on Daniel Davis, who scored two runs and stole Six bases. while going 3-for-4. Those six stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Trevino, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Ceres always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Ceres' win bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Lathrop, their victory bumped their record up to 4-6.
