Those four steals set a new season-high mark for her. Ruby Cartwright was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Santa Maria lost, one person who can't be blamed is Alyssa Reyes. Despite the final result, she scored seven points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Reyes is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Juarez , who scored five points along with six rebounds.
The victory got Sunnyside back to even at 6-6. As for Santa Maria, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-4.
Sunnyside will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Chavez at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Santa Maria is on the road again on Thursday and play against Foothill at 10:00 a.m. on December 28, 2023. Foothill will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 1004th, while Santa Maria is ranked 495th).
