Wesleyan made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Whitefield Academy, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Wolves blew past the WolfPack 9-3 on Tuesday. Considering the Wolves have won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Grayson McCollum was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Carter Hayes was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Noah Sanders was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
Wesleyan has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Whitefield Academy, the loss snapped their winning streak at nine games and leaves them with a 15-6 record.
