Baseball Recap: LeRoy Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against El Paso-Gridley, LeRoy was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the St. Anne Cardinals 10-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Panthers have posted since March 30th.

Bryce Sparling made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of LeRoy's success: when he allows at most two hits the team is undefeated (and 4-7 when he doesn't). Sparling was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jack Bogema, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He has become a key player for LeRoy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-7 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Cox, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

LeRoy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

The victory got LeRoy back to even at 7-7. As for St. Anne, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. LeRoy will take on Ridgeview at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for St. Anne, they will square off against Grant Park at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Dragons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.71 runs per game on average), something the Cardinals will no doubt try to take advantage of.
