The Redlands East Valley Wildcats will venture away from home to face off against the Cajon Cowboys at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
Redlands East Valley had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Moreno Valley on Friday. The Wildcats blew past the Vikings 14-3. Winning may never get old, but the Wildcats sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Connor Towns was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Arthur Chavez was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Towns wasn't the only one making solid contact: Redlands East Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for the Wildcats: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.4.
Meanwhile, Cajon has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.94 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Thursday. Everything went their way against Beaumont as they made off with a 16-10 victory. The Cowboys might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Zak Flinn, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jaden Carpenter, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
The win was the fourth in a row for Cajon, bringing their record up to 15-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Redlands East Valley, they pushed their record up to 11-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home.
Redlands East Valley might still be hurting after the 8-2 defeat they got from Cajon in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
