Hardaway and Sumter County are an even 5-5 against one another since August of 2017, but likely not for long. Hardaway fell victim to Calvary Christian and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They lost 15-0 to the Knights. The Hawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Sumter County made sure to put some runs up on the board against Jordan on Thursday. The Panthers had just enough and edged out the Red Jackets 11-10. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Red Jackets: they've now won eight in a row.
Tadaisha Aldridge spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and five unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kamiyah Barron, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Candace Pitts was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Hardaway's loss dropped their record down to 11-10. As for Sumter County, the win got them back to even at 9-9.
Sumter County's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Hardaway has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Sumter County, though, as they've been averaging only 4 strikeouts. Will Hardaway keep running through batters, or will the Panthers buck the trend?
Hardaway came up short against Sumter County when the teams last played back in September, falling 6-2. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
