The Elgin/Pope John Wolfpack have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 22 points or more this season. They really took it to Bloomfield for the full four quarters, racking up a 69-35 victory at home. Given Elgin/Pope John's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while Bloomfield is ranked 215th), the result on Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ashlynne Charf was her usual excellent self, scoring 21 points. The matchup was her sixth in a row with at least ten points. Brenna Martinsen was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Elgin/Pope John pushed their record up to 11-1 with that win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.0 points per game. As for Bloomfield, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elgin/Pope John will take on Fullerton at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Bloomfield, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against St. Mary's. Hopefully St. Mary's focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Saturday.
