After each having a week off, the Jefferson Forest Cavaliers and the Amherst County Lancers will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Jefferson Forest's defense has only allowed 8.8 points per game this season, so Amherst County's offense will have their work cut out for them.
Jefferson Forest made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Liberty Christian, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Cavaliers fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 22-19 last Friday. The contest marked the Cavaliers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Despite the defeat, Jefferson Forest had strong showings from Cam Foxx, who rushed for 58 yards and one score on only eight carries, and Xander Coleman, who rushed for 28 yards and one touchdown.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Amherst County, who bounced back after a loss on the road back in September. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Brookville 24-21. The Lancers' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
The critical scores for Amherst County came from Jamerson Daniel, Kenyon Thompson, and Wyatt Seay.
Having lost for the first time this season, Jefferson Forest fell to 4-1. As for Amherst County, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Jefferson Forest has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 257.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Amherst County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 150.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Jefferson Forest was able to grind out a solid win over Amherst County when the teams last played back in November of 2024, winning 38-31. Will the Cavaliers repeat their success, or do the Lancers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
