The St. Michael the Archangel Guardians will venture away from home to face off against the Truman Patriots at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. St. Michael the Archangel will be strutting in after a win while Truman will be coming in after a loss.
St. Michael the Archangel took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over St. Teresa's Academy. The Guardians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.
Sophie Young made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits. Young was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in September.
In other batting news, Samantha Dorsch was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Marjorie Hotop was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Truman's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They came up short against Fort Osage, falling 9-3.
Haylee Parker made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases and one run. Parker is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season.
The victory snapped St. Michael the Archangel's losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 12-8 record. As for Truman, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-7.
Truman's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. St. Michael the Archangel has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Truman, though, as they've been averaging only 3.5 strikeouts. Will St. Michael the Archangel keep running through batters, or will the Patriots buck the trend?
St. Michael the Archangel couldn't quite get it done against Truman when the teams last played back in August of 2024 as they fell 7-4. Can the Guardians avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
