Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Cheshire

Cheshire waltzed into their game on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Northwestern Regional Highlanders.

Bennett Crerar was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.

In other pitching news, Stephen Fitzmaurice and Nick Giampietro dominated on the mound. Fitzmaurice tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits, while Giampietro tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Fitzmaurice has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

Back at the plate, Luke Mann was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Hayden, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Cheshire's record is now 14-6. As for Northwestern Regional, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cheshire will host Xavier at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Northwestern Regional, they will be playing at home against Nonnewaug at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Highlanders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Chiefs have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
