The Armstrong River Hawks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight defeat. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 61-35 walloping at the hands of Shaler Area. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Armstrong has scored all season.
Several River Hawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jacob Szep, who scored 13 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Jack Valasek, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Armstrong struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Armstrong has not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-11 record this season. As for Shaler Area, their victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-2.
Armstrong will take on Plum at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Plum will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 413th, while Armstrong is ranked 182nd). As for Shaler Area, they will head out on the road to face off against Fox Chapel at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Fox Chapel focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Tuesday.
