University extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to five on Friday, dropping them down to 0-4. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Bishop O'Dowd Dragons. That's two games in a row now that the Red Devils have lost by just one run.
Jett Messenger put in work no matter where he played. He tossed 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in May of 2025. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.
Messenger wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Owen Chee, who went 1-for-3 with one run. Ronin Brumfield was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.
As for Bishop O'Dowd, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 8.8 runs this season.
On Bishop O'Dowd's side, Sam Senior looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Senior has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single hit any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Dimitri Williams was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucas Partrite, who went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases and one run.
Looking ahead, University will head out to face off against Skyline at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Titans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.6 runs per game on average), something the Red Devils will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Bishop O'Dowd, they will be playing at home against El Cerrito at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Gauchos' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Dragons' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
