Brody Baker made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Elbert County got a massive performance out of Jose Rodrigues, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most runs Rodrigues has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Cheyvis Mclendon, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Commerce made easy work of Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy on Wednesday and carried off a 15-0 win. The Tigers have beaten the Blazers the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Blazers has come to flipping the script.
Kamdin Mize was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. He has become a key player for Commerce: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 9-14 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Hudson, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Commerce always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy only posted an OBP of .294.
Commerce's victory bumped their record up to 12-15. As for Elbert County, their win bumped their record up to 21-6.
Commerce's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Elbert County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. It's a different story for Commerce, though, as they've only averaged .237. Will they be able to contain Elbert County's hitters?
Elbert County beat Commerce 14-9 in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Do the Blue Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
