Boothbay had lost four straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 1-11 to make it five. They came up short against the Dirigo Cougars, falling 20-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Seahawks have suffered against the Cougars since May 20, 2019.
Boothbay saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Les White, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that White has snagged this season.
As for Dirigo, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-8. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Dirigo's side, Caiden Skidgell made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Skidgell also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Dirigo is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-7 otherwise. Skidgell was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ty LaPointe, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. He has become a key player for Dirigo: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaeden Swan, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Boothbay will host Madison at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Dirigo, they will be playing at home against Mountain Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
