Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 17 to 6 on the offensive boards, a fact Imperial proved on Wednesday. They walked away with a 40-28 victory over Yuma Catholic. The win was all the more spectacular given Imperial's disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 515th in California, while the Shamrocks are ranked 138th in Arizona).
It was another big night for Nayeli Cardona, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine steals. She has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last ten times she's played. Davan Heraz was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six rebounds and three blocks.
Meanwhile, in a tight matchup that could have gone either way, Calexico made off with a 47-46 win over the Spartans.
Imperial is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a massive bump to their 15-11 record this season. As for Calexico, their win bumped their record up to 13-10.
