The Mar Vista Mariners will head out on the road to challenge the Sweetwater Red Devils at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Mar Vista will be strutting in after a win while the Red Devils will be coming in after a loss.
Mar Vista came into Wednesday's match having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They slipped by Castle Park 33-32 on Wednesday. The win was just what Mar Vista needed coming off of a 61-26 loss in their prior matchup.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mar Vista to victory, but perhaps none more so than Allyson Bell, who scored 16 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Bell has scored at least a third of Mar Vista's points. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Temcho, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Sweetwater's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fourth straight defeat. They fell just short of Hilltop by a score of 32-30. Sweetwater has struggled against the Lancers recently, as their match on Wednesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Mar Vista's victory bumped their record up to 5-11. As for Sweetwater, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season.
Mar Vista lost to the Red Devils on the road by a decisive 39-25 margin in their previous matchup back in January. Can Mar Vista avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
