The Pilgrim Patriots will venture away from home to face off against the West Warwick Wizards at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Pilgrim is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
On Saturday, Pilgrim didn't have quite enough to beat Toll Gate and fell 8-7.
Derrick Butler was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits.
At the plate, Henry Kearns made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Donovan Vermette also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Meanwhile, West Warwick faced St. Raphael Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Wizards fell just short of the Saints by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Wizards have suffered since June 5, 2024.
West Warwick also got a good showing from Anthony Burt, who pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Burt has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Joe Riviera was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Another player making a difference was Nick Andruchow, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Pilgrim's record now sits at 4-9. As for West Warwick, their loss ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 9-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Pilgrim has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like West Warwick struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
