Rancho Cotate extended their losing streak to six on Saturday, dropping them down to 3-7. They fell 8-4 to the Eureka Loggers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Loggers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-1 on Saturday.
Luke Morie was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
As for Eureka, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-4. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
On Eureka's side, Kyle Giacone and Ryder Mitchell made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Giacone tossed two innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Mitchell struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Giacone has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Giacone went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Mitchell went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Those three RBI gave Giacone a new career-high.
In other batting news, Garrett Levitt and Brayden Bermers did most of the damage at the plate: Levitt went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run, while Bermers went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave Bermers a new career-high. Scotty Brogan was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rancho Cotate will welcome Maria Carrillo at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Eureka, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Fortuna at 11:00 a.m. on April 4.
