Hughesville has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Mount Carmel RED TORNADOES at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Mount Carmel took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Hughesville, who comes in off a win.
Even though Hughesville has not done well against Bloomsburg recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Hughesville came out on top against Bloomsburg by a score of 50-39. Given Hughesville's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 65th, while Bloomsburg is ranked 286th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hughesville found their leader in underclassman Maddie Smith, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds. Smith is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alli Anstadt, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Mount Carmel suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Friday. They were dealt a 60-33 loss at the hands of Loyalsock Township. Mount Carmel has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Hughesville's win bumped their record up to 11-2. As for Mount Carmel, they now have a losing record at 6-7.
Hughesville was taken down by Mount Carmel 51-21 when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Can Hughesville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
