Taft has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Shafter Generals at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Taft posted their biggest victory since December 8, 2023 on Monday. They put the hurt on Kennedy with a sharp 47-23 victory. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up seven more assists than your opponent, as Taft did.
Taft's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alaysia Taylor, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. Taylor has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Taira Leota was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 13 rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Shafter can now show off 11 landslide victories after their most recent contest on Monday. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 62-31 victory over Chavez. Winning may never get old, but Shafter sure is getting used to it with their ninth in a row.
Taft's win bumped their record up to 8-12. As for Shafter, they pushed their record up to 17-5 with that win, which was their sixth straight on the road.
Taft took a serious blow against Shafter when the teams last played on January 4th, falling 67-20. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Shafter's Aliyah Escalera, who scored 17 points along with eight assists and four steals. Now that Taft knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
