The Arvin Bears will head out on the road to challenge the Mira Monte Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Arvin has four straight victories, the Lions have 11 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Even though Foothill scored an imposing 55 points on Thursday, Arvin still came out on top. Arvin slipped by the Trojans 56-55.
Arvin's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Emily Soto, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds and two steals, and Roxana Fernandez, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten steals. Fernandez has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Cassandra Torres, who scored six points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Mira Monte ended up a good deal behind the Bulldogs last Thursday and lost 37-18.
Arvin's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-10. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points per game. As for Mira Monte, their loss dropped their record down to 2-14.
Everything came up roses for Arvin against the Lions in their previous matchup back in January as the squad secured a 62-18 win. Does Arvin have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
