In what's become a running theme this season, the El Toro Chargers gave their fans yet another huge win on Thursday. They really took it to Mission Viejo for the full four quarters, racking up a 61-25 win on the road. Given El Toro's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 324th, while Mission Viejo is ranked 940th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead El Toro to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mariana Mina, who scored 18 points along with two steals. Mina hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Delyla Cabrera, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Mission Viejo saw an underclassman step up: Sofia Gozzo scored nine points along with two steals. Gozzo hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Emma Hambel was another key contributor, scoring four points.
Mission Viejo struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as El Toro racked up 14 assists.
El Toro has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. As for Mission Viejo, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 13 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-17 record this season.
El Toro will head out on the road to face off against Capistrano Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mission Viejo, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Dana Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
