The Yuba City Honkers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They were outmatched by Inderkum at home and fell 55-18. While losing is never fun, Yuba City can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 633rd, while the Tigers are ranked 190th).
Yuba City's loss came despite strong showings from Josie Carrick and Jazlene Casolis. Carrick scored five points along with six rebounds and five blocks, while Casolis scored four points. Carrick has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last four times she's played.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Yuba City struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only an offensive rebound. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Inderkum pulled down 16 offensive rebounds.
Leading Inderkum to victory were Breahn Flood and Jamiah Fontenberry. Flood scored 22 points along with two steals, while Fontenberry dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Fontenberry has scored at least a third of Inderkum's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Myah Collier, who scored three points along with four steals.
Yuba City's defeat dropped their record down to 9-16. As for Inderkum, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 21-5 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Yuba City will take on the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Roseville is out to stop a six-game streak of losses at home. As for Inderkum, they will head out on the road to square off against the Broncos at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Bella Vista has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 3.
