Illini West is a perfect 9-0 against Havana since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Chargers will be playing at home against the Ducks at 4:30 p.m. Illini West is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
Illini West took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. Everything went their way against Macomb as they made off with an 8-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Chargers, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.
Ethan Carlisle spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Illini West got a big performance out of Cash Jones, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI. Wesley Robertson was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Meanwhile, Havana unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They came up short against Brimfield, falling 12-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Ducks have suffered since April 29, 2025.
Illini West pushed their record up to 16-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Havana, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 12-4-1.
Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Illini West has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .446. However, it's not like Havana struggles in that department as they've averaged .441. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Illini West was able to grind out a solid win over Havana in their previous meeting back in May of 2025, winning 5-1. Do the Chargers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Ducks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
