Baseball Recap: Desert Chapel Has No Trouble Against Weaver

The home team had won the previous five meetings between Desert Chapel and Weaver, and Desert Chapel kept the tradition alive. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 15-2 margin over the Monarchs on Tuesday. The Eagles have beaten the Monarchs the last nine times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Monarchs has come to flipping the script.

Christian Gooding made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He has become a key player for Desert Chapel: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 2-4 otherwise. Gooding was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mason Ladanne, who went 1-for-2 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Neo Guintu, who got on base in both of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.

Desert Chapel always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Desert Chapel's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Weaver, they are on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Looking ahead, Desert Chapel will be playing in front of their home fans against Loma Linda Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Roadrunners' pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Weaver, they will take on Public Safety Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Monarchs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Phoenix have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season.
