Shaw hasn't had much luck against Brookstone recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Raiders will look to defend their home field against the Cougars at 5:00 p.m. Shaw is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
Shaw's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Jordan with a sharp 17-0 victory. Considering the Raiders have won 13 contests by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Katlyn Moss was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in September of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alexis McClain, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in August. Another player making a difference was Michayla Bledsoe, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI.
Shaw always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .875. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Westfield School hit Brookstone with a seven-run fourth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cougars came up short against the Hornets, falling 10-3. The Cougars haven't had much luck with the Hornets recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.
Brookstone saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mary Carter Fort, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Shaw has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 15-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Brookstone, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Shaw has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Brookstone struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Shaw couldn't quite get it done against Brookstone in their previous meeting back in August as they fell 10-6. Will the Raiders have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
