The San Luis Sidewinders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They were beaten by Cibola 95-28. San Luis was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 56-10.
San Luis lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Julissa Montoya, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and two steals. Vanessa Ambriz was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
San Luis struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Cibola racked up 29 assists.
Cibola was led to victory by Mariana Vega and Sierra Bomhower. Vega dropped a triple-double on 15 points, ten rebounds, and ten steals, while Bomhower scored 25 points along with six steals. Vega is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 19 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jaida Bosch, who scored 16 points along with two steals and two blocks.
San Luis has not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season. As for Cibola, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 15-8.
San Luis does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Cibola won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Kings at 7:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Kofa is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
