Calvary Day has gone a perfect 6-0 against Liberty County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Calvary Day Cavaliers will face off against the Liberty County Panthers at 5:30 p.m. Calvary Day's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Liberty County's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Having struggled with three losses in a row, Calvary Day turned things around against Southeast Bulloch on Monday. They walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Yellow Jackets.
Cutter Powell was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Carter Hampton, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.
Calvary Day was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
While Liberty County didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-15-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Their pitcher stepped up to hand First Preparatory Christian Academy a 10-0 shutout on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Highlanders: they've now won eight in a row.
Caden Chancey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Liberty County let Landon Usher and Glemon English run wild. Usher went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one double, while English went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. The dominant performance gave Usher a new career-high in hits. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Coley, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Liberty County's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Calvary Day, their record is now 6-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Calvary Day has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Liberty County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Calvary Day's way against Liberty County in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Calvary Day made off with an 8-0 win. Does Calvary Day have another victory up their sleeve, or will Liberty County turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
