Given Corner Canyon's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while Riverton is ranked 79th), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Corner Canyon had a senior duo take command as Elina Mortensen scored 33 points along with nine rebounds and Maia Rhay scored 24 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. That makes it ten consecutive games in which Mortensen has scored at least 25% of Corner Canyon's points. Another player making a difference was Brooke Luper, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
Corner Canyon's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.8 points per game. As for Riverton, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.
Corner Canyon will square off against Herriman at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Riverton, they will be playing at home against Bingham at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
