The Westerly Bulldogs will head out to challenge the Chariho Chargers at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Westerly not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since June 6, 2024 (when they won 8-1). They put the hurt on Lincoln with a sharp 10-4 win. The Bulldogs' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Zack Miner made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Luke Gwaltney was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Tom Fiore was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one double.
Westerly kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lincoln only managed seven hits.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Chariho ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They won by a run and slipped past Narragansett 4-3.
Chariho saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Elderkin, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Elderkin is becoming a predictor of the Chargers' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 1-2 when he doesn't).
The victory got Chariho back to even at 3-3. As for Westerly, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Westerly has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Chariho struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Westerly came out on top in a nail-biter against Chariho in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chargers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
