Basketball Game Preview: Lick-Wilmerding Tigers vs. Urban Blues

Lick-Wilmerding has gone 10-0 against Urban recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Lick-Wilmerding Tigers will face off against the Urban Blues at 5:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

It was a proper cat-fight when Lick-Wilmerding duked it out withSaint Mary's on Saturday. Lick-Wilmerding strolled past Saint Mary's with points to spare, taking the game 61-47.

Lick-Wilmerding can attribute much of their success to Avery Robins, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds, and Hailey Moy, who went 6 of 13 on her way to 20 points and six boards. That's the most points Moy has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaelyn Villavicencio, who posted ten points.

Meanwhile, Urban came tearing into Wednesday's contest with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took their match with ease, bagging a 61-31 win over the Cubs. The Blues have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 22 points or more this season.

Urban pushed their record up to 12-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.8 points per game. As for Lick-Wilmerding, the win got them back to even at 7-7.

Everything came up roses for Lick-Wilmerding against Urban in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, as the team secured a 67-34 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lick-Wilmerding since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
