Hesperia had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 12-10 to make it four. They lost 9-2 to the Sultana Sultans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Sultans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-5 back in March.
Hesperia saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Josh Flores, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
As for Sultana, the win (which was their 14th in a row) raised their record to 18-2-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games.
On Sultana's side, Eric Ruiz and LJ Borrego made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Ruiz pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Borrego pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. What's more, Ruiz posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. At the plate, Ruiz went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Borrego went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Borrego is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played.
In other batting news, Gage Reimers was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Reyes, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
While Hesperia had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.
