The Foothill Knights's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their sixth straight loss. They were outmatched by Esperanza on the road and fell 69-25. While losing is never fun, Foothill can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 695th, while Esperanza is ranked 42nd).
Despite the loss, Foothill saw an underclassman step up: Elize McAveney scored 18 points along with five rebounds.
Esperanza was led to victory by Charlotte Muller and Madilyn Lam. Muller scored 17 points along with three steals, while Lam dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds. Muller is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Bailey Frazier, who scored seven points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Foothill has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost nine of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-18 record this season. As for Esperanza, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 20-3.
Foothill will be playing at home against Villa Park at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Villa Park focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six on Tuesday. As for Esperanza, they will head out on the road to challenge Mater Dei at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Mater Dei is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
