Even though the Downey Vikings scored an imposing 55 points on Thursday, the Sonora Raiders still came out on top. Sonora came out on top in a nail-biter against Downey and snuck past 58-55. That's another feather in the cap for Sonora, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Kiana Graham continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 6 for 7 from beyond the arc en route to 26 points and 1 assists. Those 26 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Liana Hwang, who scored 11 points along with five assists.
Downey lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Symantha Barnett, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Amanda Velazquez was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with nine rebounds.
Sonora's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Downey, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-6.
Sonora's road trip will continue as they head out to face Portola at 5:00 p.m. on December 15th. Portola presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Sonora in California (Portola is ranked 48th, while Sonora is ranked 243rd). Downey won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Clovis East at 6:30 p.m. on December 15th.
