For the first time this season, South San Francisco will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Thursday. They will face off against the Harker Eagles at 5:00 p.m.
Things were looking good for South San Francisco after they put the first points on the board last Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell 8-5 to Mills.
South San Francisco saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabriel Martin, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Martin also put up a double, which was his first of the season.
Harker never got on the board in their matchup last Saturday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Pajaro Valley on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Grizzlies with a sharp 10-2 victory. The win was some much needed relief for the Eagles as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Shaurya Jain made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in February of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Mason Brooks was incredible, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Vidwat Shekar, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Harker always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
South San Francisco's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Harker, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.
Everything went South San Francisco's way against Harker in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as South San Francisco made off with a 9-2 win. Will South San Francisco repeat their success, or does Harker have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
