Baseball Recap: Escondido Charter Wins Going Away Against Coastal Academy

Escondido Charter barely beat Coastal Academy the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Escondido Charter was the clear victor by an 11-4 margin over Coastal Academy on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won seven matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Sam Romero made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out ten batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Matthew Hydar, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. Those stolen bases were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Silas Telfer, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Escondido Charter kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Escondido Charter's record is now 7-1. As for Coastal Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season.

Escondido Charter will square off against Orange Glen at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Coastal Academy, they will take on Brentwood School at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. Coastal Academy is facing Brentwood School at the right time seeing as Brentwood School is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
