Basketball Recap: The Webb Schools Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Geniya Parker and Pristine Thomas

The Webb Schools suffered their closest defeat since December 5, 2024 on Thursday. They fell just short of the Samueli Academy Firewolves by a score of 26-23. The Gauls were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Firewolves apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2020.

Pristine Thomas and Geniya Parker certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Thomas posted six points in addition to 16 rebounds and four steals, while Parker dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 boards. That's the most rebounds Parker has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Christina Young, who put up no points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, The Webb Schools smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 15 offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Samueli Academy can attribute much of their success to Kennedy Cortez, who had eight points. The team also got some help courtesy of Joselyn Hernandez, who posted six points.

The Webb Schools' defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Samueli Academy, their win bumped their record up to 5-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. The Webb Schools will challenge Carson at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Samueli Academy, they will square off against Newport Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
