The Cypress Centurions pushed their score all the way to 63 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 67-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of Yorba Linda. Despite running the score up even higher than they did last Saturday (55), Cypress still had to take the loss.
Despite the loss, Cypress still got an impressive performance from Isabella Caceres, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 assists. That's the first time this season that Caceres posted eight or more assists. Jamie Ponteres was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Even though they lost, Cypress were working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Cypress has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season. As for Yorba Linda, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Cypress and Capistrano Valley Christian will round out the year against one another at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at. Capistrano Valley Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully Cypress likes a good challenge. Yorba Linda will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Redondo Union at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Redondo Union's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while Yorba Linda has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
