Granada Hills Charter has been on the road for three straight, but on Wednesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Cleveland Cavaliers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cleveland took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Granada Hills Charter, who comes in off a win.
On Monday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Granada Hills Charter beat George Washington Prep 57-53. Given Granada Hills Charter's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 172nd, while George Washington Prep is ranked 418th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Granada Hills Charter had a senior duo take command as Emma Perez scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and three steals and Brigita Bulotaite scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and four blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Perez has scored all season. Karma Paez was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Cleveland came up short against Taft on Friday and fell 46-38. Cleveland has not had much luck with Taft recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Gabriella Calderon, who scored 18 points along with two steals. That was a full 47.4% of Cleveland's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Baylee Miles, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Granada Hills Charter's victory bumped their record up to 11-8. As for Cleveland, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-8.
Keep an eye on the arc in Wednesday's contest: Granada Hills Charter have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 5.6 threes per game. It's a different story for Cleveland, though, as they've been averaging only 3.4 threes per game. Given Granada Hills Charter's sizeable advantage in that area, Cleveland will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything came up roses for Granada Hills Charter against Cleveland when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 66-20 victory. With Granada Hills Charter ahead 38-12 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
