Ian Josephson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one double. Josephson is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.
In other pitching news, Richie Calderon looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.
Josephson wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Harrison, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Capuchino and Terra Nova, and Capuchino kept the tradition alive. Capuchino sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over Terra Nova on Monday.
John Ferreira looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
On the hitting side, Andres Gomez was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Estrella, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Capuchino's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Junipero Serra, their victory bumped their record up to 3-0.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Junipero Serra has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Capuchino struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
