It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Central Valley had no problem doing just that on Monday. They walked away with an 8-3 victory over the Franklin Yellowjackets. The win was nothing new for the Hawks as they're now sitting on four straight.
Chris Garcia made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). Garcia was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one triple. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
Garcia wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ezequiel Verduzco, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Caden Mendonca was another, going 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Central Valley's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-8. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Franklin, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 16-12 record.
Central Valley didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 4-2 defeat against St. Mary's on the 7th. Franklin does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
