Baseball Recap: Palma Sets Scoring Season-High Against Salinas

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Palma). They put the hurt on the Salinas Cowboys with a sharp 12-0 victory on Thursday. The Chieftains' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last five contests.

Manny Dorantes made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Alan Gonzalez and Johnny Carnazzo did most of the damage at the plate: Gonzalez got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Carnazzo went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and one run. Those four hits gave Carnazzo a new career-high. Aiden Veliz was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Palma always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .514 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Palma pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Salinas, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Palma will square off against Scotts Valley at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Salinas, they will challenge Templeton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
