Welsh proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 15) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Notre Dame Pioneers 5-4. Winning may never get old, but the Greyhounds sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Grant Haydel made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off 11 hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since March 3rd. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.
Haydel wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brayden Thibodeaux, who went 2-for-3 with one double.
Welsh's record is now 18-6. As for Notre Dame, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 16-11.
