The Weston Ranch Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Soledad Aztecs at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Weston Ranch has given up an average of 6.8 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Sierra hit Weston Ranch with a eight-run fifth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cougars might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 11-1 to the Timberwolves, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Weston Ranch saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nicolas (Nico) Orona, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Soledad took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Tuesday. They blew past Watsonville 14-0. The Aztecs have beaten the Wildcatz the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Wildcatz has come to flipping the script.
Ethan Sanchez made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Sanchez was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other batting news, Daniel Garcia was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Juan Esparza, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Soledad always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Watsonville only posted an OBP of .000.
Weston Ranch's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Soledad, their record is now 1-0.
Weston Ranch skirted past Soledad 8-6 when the teams last played back in March of 2025. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Aztecs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
