Monte Vista is a perfect 10-0 against Mount Miguel since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Monarchs will take on the Matadors at 4:00 p.m. Monte Vista will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
Monte Vista is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past El Cajon Valley 23-6 on Tuesday.
Orlando Rupley made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was even better at the plate, getting on base in two of his six plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Xavier Wilson looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Robert Vasquez, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Damian Ordaz, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Monte Vista kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 11.6.
Meanwhile, Mount Miguel was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They lost 15-5 to Steele Canyon.
Mount Miguel saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Angel Delgado, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Mount Miguel's loss dropped their record down to 7-15. As for Monte Vista, their record is now 6-17.
Monte Vista beat Mount Miguel 7-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Monarchs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
