Red Bluff and University Prep are an even 4-4 against one another since March of 2020, but likely not for long. The Spartans will be playing at home against the Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Red Bluff is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Red Bluff couldn't beat Eureka on Monday even though they stacked four runs on them in the first inning. The Spartans fell just short of the Loggers by a score of 8-7. The Spartans haven't had much luck with the Loggers recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Red Bluff saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cooper Sides, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask University Prep). They blew past Anderson 18-3 on Tuesday. Considering the Panthers have won 12 matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Tristin Raglin and Lane Powell were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Raglin pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Powell struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Raglin a new career-high in strikeouts (five). At bat, Raglin got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one double, while Powell went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those RBI marked the first that Powell has brought in this season.
In other batting news, University Prep let Luca Snell and Jack Ampi run wild. Snell went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and two RBI, while Ampi went 3-for-5 with three RBI and one run. Those three hits gave Ampi a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Casey Wrathall, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs.
University Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
University Prep's win bumped their record up to 17-8-1. As for Red Bluff, their loss dropped their record down to 16-11.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Red Bluff hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .354. However, it's not like University Prep struggles in that department as they've averaged .347. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
