The West Warwick Wizards will square off against the Exeter-West Greenwich Scarlet Knights at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. West Warwick's pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so Exeter-West Greenwich's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
West Warwick is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: Central, who was ranked 12th at the time (West Warwick was ranked fourth). The Wizards walked away with a 6-3 win over the Knights on Wednesday.
West Warwick got a great performance from Anthony Burt as he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and not a single walk). Burt has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Nick Andruchow was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024. Joe Riviera was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
Meanwhile, Exeter-West Greenwich made easy work of Blackstone Valley Prep on Thursday and carried off an 8-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Scarlet Knights in their matchups with the PRIDE: they've now won four in a row.
The team relied heavily on Dawson Sweet, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of JJ Langlais, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Exeter-West Greenwich kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Blackstone Valley Prep only managed two hits.
West Warwick pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Exeter-West Greenwich, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
Everything went West Warwick's way against Exeter-West Greenwich when the teams last played back in June of 2024, as West Warwick made off with an 11-1 win. Do the Wizards have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Scarlet Knights turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
