Baseball Recap: Pike Comes Up Short

Pike was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Bluffton Tigers.

AJ Dawkins made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Pike's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-2 (and 3-7-1 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Joe Williams, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Pike's defeat dropped their record down to 7-9-1. As for Bluffton, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.

Pike and Bluffton could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. The Red Devils will face off against Park Tudor at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (220 vs. 65). Meanwhile, Bluffton (ranked 90th) will meet Andrean (ranked second) at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
