Evergreen hasn't had much luck against Longmont recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Cougars will venture away from home to take on the Trojans at 8:00 p.m. One thing working in Evergreen's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
Evergreen blew Pueblo Central out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Tuesday Pueblo Central got their revenge. The Cougars fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 73-71. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while the Wildcats are ranked 35th).

Evergreen might have lost, but man, Xavier Spungin was a machine: he dropped a double-double with 30 points and 14 rebounds. With that strong performance, Spungin is now averaging an impressive 15.8 points per game. Another player making a difference was Logan McCanna, who posted 15 points along with eight boards and four blocks.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Longmont, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They blew past Montbello 71-34 on Wednesday. The Trojans not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since January 25th (when they won 68-31).
Evergreen better keep an eye on Joey Foot. He was instrumental in Longmont's win, going 11-for-13 on his way to 22 points. The dominant performance also gave Foot a new career-high in shooting accuracy (85%). David Valles was another key player, shooting 63% from the field to rack up 12 points and three steals.
Longmont was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
The victory got Longmont back to even at 2-2. As for Evergreen, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Keep an eye on the arc in Thursday's matchup: Evergreen has been dynamite from deep this season, having made 35.2% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Longmont, though, as they've only made 25.9% of their three-pointers this season. Given Evergreen's sizable advantage in that area, the Trojans will need to find a way to close that gap.
Evergreen might still be hurting after the 51-30 defeat they got from Longmont in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
