The Grand Terrace Titans will face off against the Trinity Classical Academy Knights at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.
Grand Terrace is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Chino, sneaking past 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Titans have posted since March 21st.
Colton Caldwell tossed a big game, striking out 13 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lucas Palos, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February of 2024. Jesse Medina was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Friday Trinity Classical Academy sidestepped Don Lugo for a 3-2 victory.
John Carlson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits.
At the plate, Trinity Classical Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luke Backes, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Trinity Classical Academy's win was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Grand Terrace, their win bumped their record up to 15-11.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Grand Terrace has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Trinity Classical Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
